Are you in the market for a cheap 3d Printer but not sure which one to buy, this review is for you. Below we have reviewed all the models on the market and tested which are the cheapest 3D printers for you to buy and more importantly which you should avoid. When you're looking for the best cheap 3D printer on the market you have a couple of choices, either you can buy a slightly older model that comes with all the top features or you can buy a model that is made with less features and therefore has a much lower price tag.
One thing that we would avoid doing, is buying a cheap import that is made by a company that you have never heard of. These are typically very badly made and do not work well and often cause more problems than they are worth. If you want to buy a cheap 3D printer, we would recommend that you stick to the major manufactures that design and build many of top 3D printers. Yes these will typically cost more than the imports, however they will also be better made and therefore likely to work better and last longer. We have heard stories of readers buying cheap imported 3D printers only to find that they do not work and worse still, that warranty that you thought you had not longer exists because you can not find the company.
Best Cheap 3D Printer 2016
2016 is the year where 3D printer have design printers specifically for this low value market where users are looking to enter the market a low cost, whilst at the same time buying a printer that will provide the required performance. In the past you either had a choice of buy a printer that came as a kit meaning that you had to build the printer yourself or buy yourself a first generation printer that had come out of fashion.
The kit 3D printers are brilliant however we hated putting them together as we had multiple problems and always ended up phoning the help line for one problem or another. Buying a first generation printer simply meant that we were buying a printer that was out of date and usually had it's problems fixed in a second generation model that we always wanted. This has all changed during 2016 with the introduction of the XYZprinting Da Vinci Jr. 3D Printer which offers access to 3D printing for a few hundred dollars which is perfect for those looking to get into printing or even for children. Whilst we have not bought an XYZprinting Da Vinci Jr. 1.0 3D Printer ourselves we have tested it extensive and can firmly say, it's the best cheap 3D printer on the market in 2016.
XYZprinting Da Vinci Jr. 1.0 3D Printer
The XYZprinting Da Vinci Jr. 1.0 3D Printer is a fantastic printer that has specifically designed as a cheap, value for money printer that offer exceptional performance. The printer is made using an internal frame made from aluminum rail which gives the printer it's sturdy design, whilst the outside shell is made of plastic which keeps the weight down. Out of the box, the printer is quick to put together meaning that once you have loaded the software you can easily get yourself printing. The printer only prints in PLA at a thickness of 100-400 microns, however does offer a printing size of 5.9" x 5.9" x 5.9 Inches which is slightly smaller than we would recommend, however fine for a cheap printer.
Contained with the printer is a quick press-and-release extruder which means that it's very easy to remove and replace for cleaning and given that there is no ABS printing allowed, the printer does not have a heated print bed which is not needed for PLA printing. Calibration is also easy given that the XYZ Junior does not come with a complicated leveling system and instead comes completely leveled meaning that you only have to adjust the distance between the extruder and the print bed to ensure printing is easy.
Overall the XYZ Junior is a fantastic printer that offer value for money and great performance. That all said it does have some downsides with the biggest problem being that you have to use specific XYZ filament which is twice the price of normal printing filament. Whilst it's great value for money and ideal for children, the lack of ABS printing and a heated print bed does mean that you likely to get bored pretty quickly and require an upgrade if you really want to get into 3D printing.
